I've Been Trying... but, I Still Can't Wrap My Head Around a Girl

Turn your kids lose with the camera on your phone and you can learn a lot about yourself...

 I am a
panel pants wearing
mac n' cheese blowing
vericose vein sporting
hair accessory stitching
baby bootie, coordinating dress sewing
flannel blanket making
f-i-r-s-t time ever
about to become
mother of a
daughter.

And I'm terrified.

I am realizing I like felt

I LOVE the fact that 40 years later I still sew with my mother's
first Bernina and it doesn't miss a stitch

I really like corduroy but I don't care much for the prints that are available

Black, red and white are acceptable colors for a little girl with 4 older brothers.  I still don't believe in pink.  I am sure this non-acceptance will change in time.  It is just odd to march to the beat of a different drum.  I never thought having a daughter would feel so unnatural.

Amber! You will be an amazing mother to a little girl! Just like you are to your boys. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. Believe it or not, they're not THAT different. Okay, okay, so they like different things and have different emotions, etc. But when it all comes down to it, they are individuals, with individual spirits, minds, and hearts. And they individually touch you in a way where you figure it out. Your love for her will go way farther than hair bows and pink dresses. Hey, she might even make the transition easy for you and spend the first five years of her life thinking she too is a boy just like her older brother (me!). Can't wait for you!:) Awesome job, btw, on all the cute sewing stuff! Love.

I felt the same way about having a boy! Of course, I only had one girl, but I was very concerned. At my baby shower I said "What am I going to do with a boy?" and a mom of three boys shook her head, smiled, and said, "Just love him." She was right! I didn't have to go out and memorize the names of construction equipment before I gave birth to him. I didn't have to try to be a different parent to him. You will be a great mommy to that little gal. Just love her!

That dress and shoes are so adorable!!

That little girl is going to be so loved by her big brothers! And what a lucky lady coming to your house to learn to be a woman of God from such an amazing mom! Pink wasn't really ever my favorite color for a girl but of course it's both of my daughters' favorite color so it's everywhere in this house. Go figure.

Adorable dress!!! And congrats a million times! I am so happy you get to have a girl!! I have to say, my little boy lightens up my life and is super duper spoiled. I'm sure it'll be the same for your princess! She will be loved SO much by all those boys (and mom of course!).

Congratulations. That is exciting. I was the 5th kid and first girl. I thought it was a great place to be. Good luck with all the frilly and pink stuff - it will be fun!
