Have I Done Any Good in the World Today?

I believe in a prophet of God. Just as in ancient Biblical days God spoke to men and women on the earth through His servants the prophets. I believe God continues to speak to men and we are not left to wander on this earth without a loving Father in Heaven's constant watchful care. Such care and guidance I believe can be felt and received through the man God has called to served as His prophet today. God's chosen prophet on the earth today is Thomas S. Monson. This is just a nibble of what the Lord would have us ask of ourselves as revealed through His servant the Prophet.

Pick Your Slick

So what's slicker (is slicker a word?)... more slick: An Iowa ice storm or a limp wet elusive spaghetti noodle traveling between the esophagus and nasal passageway of a 14 month old child? I'm gonna say this one is a toss up. We saw a little of both today. Right before bed (about 2 hours after dinner mind you) Andrew went into a crazy sneezing nose rubbing hysteria. Peculiar... yes but you may sneeze too if you have 4 inches of limp noodle wandering around in your head. Just when you think you can grab that 3/4 of an inch peeking out of the nose along comes the sniff to accompany the snuff that sucks it back it. When alas with one final belly whopper we sneeze our intimate little wiggly friend out. Few! That was a nose rubber. Heard it could happen, but haven't ever actually seen it.

The ice storm kept Adam home from school today. We filled the day doing Valentine's day crafts that Adam has been begging to do from an activity book that fell into our hands. We made wreaths and valentine checkers complete with checker board. We managed to dust the blinds and did a little icicle whacking out in the yard. This is such an anticipated event that the boys were out whacking in PJ's and snow boots this morning. The ice was thick and slick. I went out long enough the break the ice from the mail box and get the flag up for the mailman. Even the grass is slick.

Response Time

Take note:
911 Ambulance Response from Hospital to Home:
( 8.24 miles of Highway) 7 minutes 38 seconds
Jonathan response time from the river to Home:
(10.87 miles of winding river road) 5 minutes tops

On Saturday our blessed little peanut number three had been sick for a few days and decided he wanted to really try mom out. He went into a seizure and stopped breathing, turned cyanotic and became non-responsive. Are we having fun yet? While he was not breathing Jonathan called on his way home from work (tender mercy) and I told him what was happening. He told me to hang up and call 911. He arrived shortly before the ambulance. Our expensive limo took us to town and we got Andrew breathing and mildly responsive. Within time we got all the kinks worked out. Andrew has abnormally low levels of Calcium (which causes tetanus). Low calcium combined with potentially a febrile seizure equated to a party at the Jenson's. What we don't do for fun out here in the sticks. Currently Andrew is back to his normal self around here. Climbing on the table, unloading every cupboard we own and itching for a chance to fish in a toilet left open by an older sib. If nothing else I realized how loved we are. Two neighbors were here while the EMT's were working with Andrew at the house and 5 ward members had called to see if they could help before we were home from the hospital. Word travels fast in a small town, but love travels even quicker... Howbeit I think Daddy-o wins the quick award of the week. I will never know how he did Floris road in 5.

Sure are Cute

The holidays came and we enjoyed the days we got to spend together. It has been really cold here in Iowa as I am sure it has been everywhere else. Adam has had 7 snow/cold days out of school and we have loved having him at home a little more. Jonathan had a little time off from work as well and we hunkered down, tried to stay warm and have had lots of fun.

We spent the day at home together for my birthday. Jonathan was on call the night before and spent the night at the hospital. When he got home he and the boys disappeared to the basement and wrapped gifts while I got to clean the upstairs of the house. I was glad to be able to get some cleaning done without 3 little helpers. It went quick and a clean house makes happy birthdays. The power went out so we postponed baking a birthday cake while we headed to the back yard to do a little sledding. We have several perfect sledding hills out by the forest and ravine. We just have to be careful not to veer off into the trees in the forest. Matthew got going a little too fast and bailed just before he got to the trees. I was proud of him for jumping ship. He did just as we told him to when he gets too close to the trees. He was a little chilled by his face plant.

The boys and Jonathan put together a great party for the mamma. I enjoyed summer sausage, slippers, lotion, books and Martinelli's. I ate nearly the entire cake by myself. We rang in the new year with a glimpse of the blue moon at midnight and Martinelli's.
